SENIOR GOLFERS SOCIETY OF QUEENSLAND LTD

Monday 14 February - Royal Qld Golf Club

President's Update | Fulvio Toniotti

Trust all 59 players enjoyed the opportunity to play on this marvellous, recently prepared, Australian PGA Championship course, which was competed between 13th to 16th January 2022 and notably won by an RQ member, 22yo Australian Jediah Morgan by a record 11 shots.

Now, as it's the first gathering for the 2022 season, there are a number of very important points to mention before we move into the results, namely:

  • As you are aware, the Mornington Peninsula 2022 Tour runs from Sunday 13th to Saturday 19th March. All systems are go with some wiggle room for further interested parties to attend. If anyone is keen, please contact David McGregor or Don Fraser.
  •  Directly after the Mornington Peninsula tour is the 2022 McIntyre Trophy in Tasmania. The McIntyre runs from Sunday 20th to Tuesday 22nd March. Given Queensland are the current Trophy holders, it's disappointing that we could only summon four SGSQ members! This National event only occurs every two years, so I would highly recommend all members give some thought and support in attending the 2024 McIntyre which will be held in South Australia.
  • As communicated recently SGSQ was invited to join an outgoing overseas tour, hosted by the USA Seniors during September and October 2022. An absolute golfing opportunity of a lifetime, this event received a healthy interest, requiring a ballot to be drawn for the one spot available. I'm happy to announce that Fergus and Cathy Legh will be joining Don and Lindy Fraser on tour.
  • Furthermore, we have an incoming South African Senior Golfers' tour in Queensland from the 8th to the 15th October 2022. An exciting social and golfing program has been drafted with games at RQ, IGC, Brookwater and Hope Island. Our Queensland Senior Golfers' Society members will be invited to attend both functions and golf. Further information will follow.
  • The Captain has drawn up an excellent 2022 program which is on our website under Golf/Program & Results. We have added a new course, Nudgee, scheduled for the 12th September. Will be an interesting new challenge, I'm sure.
  • Lastly, the much revered Society tie was presented to new members  Rob Bischoff and Ned O'Connor from Brisbane Golf Club.

Captain's Corner | Les Nathanson

The 8am 4BBB Shotgun start proceeded uneventfully after the redraw for one swinger and two late players caught up in traffic. Showers later in the round resulted in incomplete rounds for four players.

Scoring was moderate with Jeremy Maycock and Goeff Voller winning with 45 Pts. Lloyd Toft and Fulvio Toniotti were runners up with 43 Pts. The rundown went to 38, with two NTP wins by Rob Thatcher. Waning COVID restriction allowed rakes in bunkers and choice of Pin removal for putting.

Opening Season Trophy round for President's v Captain's.

Winning team was The President's.  Congratulations to Fulvio's great team but look out for some heat from the Captain's team revenge in 2023.

Ross Kelly also received the UK Trophy, having not been present at the November 2021 Annual Dinner.

The catering and pro-shop staff performed seamlessly in the game organisation making for an enjoyable start to the season.

The next  game, at Southport Golf Club on Monday 11th April, will include partners.

Happy Golfing
