Senior Golfers' Society of Queensland

Game 4  | Monday 13th June 2022 | Keperra GC

CAPTAIN'S CORNER

A designated home Game this year. 41 Members registered with a planned 9am Shotgun 4BBB Competition and NTPs on the four par 3s. The small field seemed to be a legacy of a number of members being overseas to greet grandchildren unseen over the Covid lockdown period and clashes with rescheduled Club events due to wet weather recently.

It was a mild, partly cloudy day with a very light SSW wind. The North course using Holes 10 - 27 was in play, a novelty to most players. The flatter layout of the 19 - 27 nine was easier for walkers and provided some entertaining layout and Greens. Quite a challenge with low scoring. This was despite many bunker washouts being out of play and 'one card length' preferred lies in the General area.

The ball run down extended to 30 points ( ! ). Third were Don Fraser / David Prince on 37, Second Fred Hess / John Steffensen on 38 and winners on countback were Robert Wright / Geoff Voller on 38.

Bruce Wallis picked up NTP on 12th , Mike Hume on the 25th , Jerry Maycock on the 27th - and on the 17th everyone managed to avoid the Green!

The lunch of Wraps with French fries on the side was consumed and the organisation by Keperra management and Pro Shop staff on the day was faultless. Overall, the day was very enjoyable.

 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

SGSQ proudly welcomed two new members; David Prince and Michael Cassidy from Brisbane GC with their Society Ties.

After an unsuccessful attempt to play our 3rd game of the year at Brisbane GC due to weather, Keperra GC thankfully was basking in some sunshine and not under trying weather conditions as last year, and for those members unaware, our tireless Captain Les needed to race out in a cart to place/remove NTP's as the course was staffed as though still under COVID playing restrictions. On the day the course really turned out to be a wonderful test of golf, and wonderful that members could come together again for some social enjoyment.

A brief update for all our members with some of the key activities being planned within the Queensland seniors over the coming period;

  1. Members will notice when you book for the Bribie Island GC game and future venues that we have added 'next of kin' detail to input. As mentioned in earlier circulars, this initiative may improve communication with relevant family members if the need arises.
  2. Our 2023 Queensland tour will be Sydney Northern Beaches between Sunday 17th and Saturday 23rd September, with the exciting present scheduled games at Elanora, Terrey Hills, Killara and Long Reef GC's. So, pencil it in and start your planning with partners. I also envisage that many members may decide to travel down by car, so car parking may need to be considered.
  3. The 2023 SGSQ game schedule is currently under review and member input is being requested for feedback. Present thoughts would be to add another north coast golf course, such as Twin Waters, Noosa Springs or Noosa GC (previously Noosa Tewantin). Please feel free to pass on your preferences or alternate option through to the SGSQ Captain or myself.

Next Game - Bribie Island Golf Club Friday 8th July  9.30am Shotgun start.
