PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It was quite a worrying start to the week of our game, what with all the recent rain, however, at one of our favourite yearly golfing locations - Bribie Island basked in lovely sunshine providing a wonderful golfing event followed by lunch.

A brief update for all our members as well as some of the key activities being planned within the Queensland Seniors Society over the coming period;

  1. I wish to convey that the strength of our Society rests with the participation and involvement of you, the members. As a heads up, the SGSQ subscriptions will become due on the 30th September 2022 with a communique from our treasurer, Mark Barry being released soon.
  2. Referencing some exciting 2023 events of note;
    • 2023 USA Incoming Tour planned for the Queensland leg between 7th to 13th March.
    • 2023 UK Outgoing 3-week Tour planned for commencement, Sunday 4th June. An allocation for 2 couples from Queensland will be drawn via ballot. Please feel free to express your early interest via email to the President, ftoniotti@gmail.com
    • And....2023 SGSQ Annual Tour at Sydney Northern Beaches planned between Sunday 17th to Saturday 23rd September. The scheduled golf courses include Elenora, Terrey Hills, Killara and Long Reef......pencil it in.
  3. Also at Bribie, I called for a show of hands to determine a new golfing venue for the 2023 golfing program. "North Coast or South Coast"?
    • Approximately 80% in favour of North Coast which our Captain will poll our members and announce in due course.

SGSQ proudly welcomed one new member,  Bob Brown from Royal Queensland GC, with his Society Tie.

 CAPTAIN'S CORNER

A bright cool sunny winters day welcomed 54 players. The 9.30am Shotgun start helped those coming up from Brisbane and were greeted by lovely green fairways and Quality Greens. Numerous cancellations a day before and on the morning of, made for 6 swinging groups in a smallish field. Those impacted cheerfully accepted the challenge, but this did slow up result correlation and the presentation afterwards.

The 4BBB groups were nicely sheltered from the Westerly gusting wind by the tight fairway lining by trees. Scoring was steady with men's runner up Allan English / Bill Bruce on 41 Pts pipped on a count back by Doug Lukin / Rick Fry (Be patient your time will come!), with ball run down to 35 points. NTPs: 4th Les Nathanson, 7th Peter Nimmo, 14th Bill Bruce and 16th Peter White.

Captain Julie Crombie witnessed the late moulding of her draw due to late changes with a smile. Julie congratulated women's runner up Lisa Bruce / Julie Brown on 41 Pts and winners with a fine effort, Vivienne Trenfield / Di Dixon on 42 Pts with the ball rundown to 33. NTPs: 4th Jenna Lyons, 7th Cathy Clarke, 14th Anita Nimmo and 16th Tessa English.

Sadly, I must also salute the passing of our member Michael Harrison Snr, who's cheerful and interested demeanour was much valued as a playing partner. He will be missed and I acknowledge a substantial number of registered players who preferred to attend his funeral on the day.

An excellent hot lunch and refreshments were enjoyed by all. Glenn Neighbour in the Pro Shop, Captain Graham who assisted me with results and a cheerful catering/bar staff rounded out a very pleasant day.

Next Game - Royal Queensland Golf Club Monday 27th August am Shotgun start.
